Alkanes

This is the most basic structure of a saturated hydrocarbon (alkane).
Alkanes are organic molecules containing only hydrogen, carbon, and single bonds.
These structures are represented with only single bonds/sigma bonds (single lines) that connect the atoms in the molecule.

General Formula

The general formula for alkanes:

C_nH_2n+2

where n is all real numbers that are positive.
